Regulation which amends the wording of Article 20 of the “Regulation on the Implementation of the Turkish Citizenship Law” (“the Regulation”) has been published in the Official Gazette (No. 32397) on December 12, 2023. The amendment reflects a change at the content of properties that are acquired to gain Turkish citizenship by way of investment.

With the amendment, the phrase “property” in Article 20 of the Regulation has been removed and replaced with the phrase “property qualified as land on which a condominium ownership or construction servitude has been established or with a building on it”. As a result, properties with a value of at least 400.000 US Dollars or equivalent foreign currency which possess condominium ownership or construction servitude or lands with a building on will be eligible for an investment for the application of Turkish citizenship.

In brief, it was possible to obtain citizenship through investment by purchasing vacant land and fields, however, under the new regime, in order to apply for citizenship, it is necessary to purchase a land with a building on it or a property with condominium ownership or construction servitude.
